David Sims of Greenville Music Preservation is dedicated to keeping the history of Greenville’s music scene alive. He founded the nonprofit organization in 2021 and serves as its president and producer. Greenville’s live music history, dating back to the 1880s, is a passion for Sims, who has meticulously researched and documented the city’s musical past. The organization’s website is a treasure trove of information about Greenville’s rich musical heritage.
The Grand Opera House, which opened in May 1901, was a central hub for music and entertainment in Greenville. Sims highlights the diverse range of performers and shows that graced the stage of the Grand Opera House, emphasizing the vibrant cultural scene that once thrived in the city. Despite the venue’s closure in 1923, Sims is committed to ensuring that the legacy of Greenville’s music history lives on.
In addition to his work with Greenville Music Preservation, Sims also serves as the executive director of the Sigal Music Museum and continues to advocate for the preservation and celebration of Greenville’s musical legacy. Through articles, podcasts, and in-person presentations, Sims strives to educate the community about the rich cultural heritage of Greenville’s music scene.
As Greenville Music Preservation prepares to establish its own space in Unity Park’s new PKL Park pickleball complex, Sims remains dedicated to honoring the past and ensuring that future generations can appreciate the significance of Greenville’s musical history.
