Greenville man arrested following an early morning shooting death

Greenville, South Carolina

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection with a death investigation. According to GCSO Deputy Jeremy Holt, deputies arrested Austin Lee Kellam, 31, Friday after the 1:30 a.m. shooting death of William Travis Madden, 35. Kellam was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Incident Details

Greenville County Communications received a call at 1:30 a.m. Friday, reporting a gunshot victim with at least one wound at 112 Aklavik Court. Responding officers found Madden dead with a gunshot wound. The Greenville County coroner put his time of death at 1:30 a.m.

Investigation

GCSO investigators determined that Madden was shot during an altercation with Kellam but were still trying to determine whether the men knew each other prior to the shooting.

Legal Proceedings

Kellam’s bond hearing was scheduled for Friday.
