New Dean Takes Charge at USC School of Medicine Greenville
Greenville is buzzing with excitement as Dr. Phyllis MacGilvray has been named the new Dean of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville. This makes her the first physician board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine to lead the school, which boasts a platinum certification from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. MacGilvray brings a wealth of experience, having served as the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the same institution.
The former dean, Dr. Marjorie Jenkins, stepped down in May after holding the position since August 2019. MacGilvray has been pivotal in expanding the school’s capabilities, including increasing the number of new-resident programs during her tenure. “I am honored to have the opportunity to lead our medical school into the next chapter,” MacGilvray said.
YMCA of Greenville Promotes Chief Development Officer
In other news, MaryEllis Petrosian has been promoted to Chief Development Officer of the YMCA of Greenville. Her role will focus on fundraising strategies and community outreach to strengthen the YMCA’s mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Previously, she served as Executive Director of Foundation and Fundraising Innovation, where she significantly increased membership giving.
“The Y is a space for anyone of any age and any background,” Petrosian stated, emphasizing her commitment to making the YMCA a welcoming environment for all.
Hope Academy Marks Graduation Milestone
Project Hope Foundation’s Hope Academy proudly celebrated its third high school graduation recently. Graduates Christopher Thompson, Eli Leathers, and Asher McMullen received their high school certificates from the S.C. Independent School Association. Co-Executive Directors Lisa Lane and Susan Sachs worked tirelessly to develop a curriculum that meets SCISA’s graduation standards.
“There has been so much progression,” said Alonzo Thompson, father of graduate Christopher, celebrating this significant milestone.

New Developments at Hartness Urban Village
