Greenville Embraces Leadership with United Community’s Junior Board Program

In the lovely city of Greenville, excitement is in the air as students gear up for another school year infused with valuable learning experiences. This year, United Community has kicked off its highly anticipated Junior Board of Directors program, continuing a remarkable tradition that has been making waves since 2005. With the purpose of bridging high school students to local business networks, this initiative is sparking a flame of enthusiasm among upperclassmen.

Empowering Future Leaders

At the heart of this program lies a treasured vision: to nurture and develop aspiring leaders not just in the Upstate, but throughout the Southeast. Moryah Jackson, the Senior Vice President and Director of Community Development and Engagement, shared, “Our Junior Board of Directors program aims to develop the next generation of leaders… We believe that providing young people with practical knowledge about finance, leadership, and community engagement helps create well-rounded individuals who can contribute positively to their communities.”

That’s right! United Community is dedicated to enlightening the youth with essential skills that are pivotal in today’s world. With the recent expansion into cities across Georgia and North Carolina, the hope is to connect even more students with invaluable insights into potential career paths.

A Fresh Start at Legacy Early College

This year, the excitement kicked off at Legacy Early College where 11th and 12th graders took the stage. The program commenced with students sharing their unique backgrounds and diving deep into discussions about their leadership qualities. How inspiring is that! Through this partnership, students are set to gain firsthand knowledge about financial literacy, leadership development, community service, and explore careers in banking—all crucial aspects that can shape their future success.

Making an Impact Together

Can you believe it? Since its inception, the Junior Board of Directors program has welcomed over 1,000 students and successfully established connections across ten different communities where United operates. With growth always on the agenda, the program is keen on providing even more students with these enriching learning opportunities as it continues to flourish across the Southeast.

A Trustworthy Partner in Banking

For those unfamiliar, United Community Banks, Inc. is no small player in the financial sector, standing proudly as a top 100 U.S. financial institution. As of June 30, 2024, they boasted a whopping $27.1 billion in assets! Through their broad spectrum of banking, wealth management, and mortgage services, United aims to improve the financial health and well-being of not just their customers, but also the broader communities they serve.

Let’s not overlook United’s fantastic reputation—they’re the proud ten-time winner of the J.D. Power award for best customer satisfaction among consumer banks in the Southeast region! And as if that weren’t enough, they were also named one of the “Best Banks to Work For” for the seventh consecutive year. Talk about a trustworthy partner!

Looking Ahead

As United Community continues to inspire the youth and enhance its community involvement, it’s plain to see that they’re making significant strides in building a robust future. With leadership workshops, community service initiatives, and the promise of mentorship from experienced United leaders, students are truly receiving an education that goes beyond the classroom.

Here’s to a fantastic school year filled with opportunities, growth, and connections that can change lives! With initiatives like the Junior Board of Directors program making waves, the future is indeed looking bright for our young leaders in Greenville and beyond.
