As of Monday evening, October 14, many residents in Greenville and the wider Upstate area are still feeling the effects of the recent Tropical Storm Helene, with over 42,000 Spectrum internet users left without service. The storm caused widespread power outages and service disruptions, leaving many folks offline and frustrated. Despite the lingering outages, there is good news on the horizon; according to a communication from Spectrum, the company anticipates that complete service restoration for all customers in South Carolina will be achieved by October 16, provided that the locations have power and are safe for access.
When Tropical Storm Helene hit, it brought heavy rain and strong winds, wreaking havoc on communication lines and infrastructure. At the peak of the storm, a staggering 395,000 customers in South Carolina were reported to be offline. The impact of these outages was felt widely across communities, as many relied on internet access for work, school, and staying connected with loved ones.
In response to this crisis, Spectrum mobilized over 900 technicians and engineers, who have been working tirelessly to repair the damaged network. They have already repaired over 300 miles of network, demonstrating their commitment to getting residents back online as quickly as possible.
Scott Pryzwansky, a senior director at Charter Communications, shared some encouraging news, stating, “Right now, we have over 3,000 field leaders, technicians, and engineers actively working around the clock to access and repair any damage to our network as a result of Helene.” This concerted effort aims to restore services not only to those who have lost power but also to ensure that their service can be operational safely and effectively when power is restored.
