In the heart of Greenville, a delightful surprise has brightened the lives of Skip Limbaker and his family. After nearly two decades of living in their cherished home, the Limbakers are finally about to see the transformation of their dreams come to life! This exciting opportunity comes from winning the Home & Garden Refresh Giveaway, which features a hefty prize of $100,000 earmarked specifically for home renovations.
Skip, a lifelong resident of Mount Pleasant and a dedicated planner for Greenville County Schools for over ten years, along with his wife Elizabeth, who thrives in the sales industry, has called Greenville home for roughly 20 years. Together, they have two active sons, aged 15 and 12, and a spirited 7-year-old chocolate lab, making their beautiful 2,106-square-foot Craftsman home a hub of family activity.
Skip shared that he was inspired to enter the contest after recognizing the increasing urgency for home updates. “You get to that age, and you need to do some upgrades. Things get outdated, and then, of course, with kids and dogs, walls and everything need to be redone,” he explained candidly. When he stumbled upon the giveaway, it seemed too good to pass up. “I saw it and figured, ‘Why not?’” Little did he know how fortunate he would soon become!
After submitting his entry, Skip was left in a state of disbelief when he found out he had actually won! “It took a while to sink in,” he recalled. It only truly became real at the celebratory gala where the announcement was made. “That’s when it hit me,” he said with a smile.
Now that Skip and his family have the funds to breathe new life into their home, they have great plans ahead. They intend to repaint their two-story house, update the flooring, and take a more detailed approach to major areas like the kitchen and their fireplace. To kick off the renovation journey, they were thrilled to receive a 20-minute virtual consultation with Jenny and Dave Marrs, the stars of the HGTV series Fixer to Fabulous.
Skip described the experience as surreal, saying, “We tried to pack everything in we could with the time we had and get their advice. They’re super cool people, down to earth.” Encouraged by their warmth, Skip plans to stay in touch and share updates with the Marrses as their renovation unfolds.
Before the consultation, the Marrses asked the Limbakers to complete a survey that helped assess their style preferences. The couple answered an interesting mix of either-or style-related questions and open-ended queries about the design styles they love. During the consultation, they received valuable pointers on color schemes and style recommendations that suit their tastes, suggesting things like light-colored flooring and Shaker-style cabinets. “She said to be careful of going too contemporary, too trendy with fixtures or knobs and things like that,” Skip recalled — sound advice to ensure their home remains stylish for years to come.
As the creative juices begin to flow, Skip was further gifted a $1,350 gift card from STIHL, exploring their battery-operated outdoor equipment for his new projects. The Limbakers are excitedly gearing up to meet with contractors for estimates, quickening the pace for their much-needed upgrades. They have already made some exciting decisions, including updating their stone fireplace to a stunning German Smear Brick look, installing gorgeous white oak floors, and refreshing their kitchen with elegant granite countertops.
“This gives us the opportunity to do it,” Skip said, reflecting on the chance to finally accomplish these renovations sooner than they initially expected. With dreams in motion and plans blossoming, the Limbaker family is ready to turn their house into a home that feels as good as new!
As they embark on this exhilarating journey, one can only imagine the joy and excitement that awaits them at the end of it. With family love, a little help from experts, and a significant cash prize, the future for the Limbakers looks brighter than ever.
