Greenville Co. Leaders Seek Help To Preserve Greenville Historical Park

Leaders from Greenville Co. Make an Urgent Plea

On Friday, August 27, 2024, Greenville County Non-profit, in collaboration with city council members, made an appeal to the public. They urgently need aid to support the maintenance of one of the region’s most impactful historical sites, the Greenville Textile Heritage Park. The Chairman of the Greenville Textile Heritage Society, Don Harkins is leading this herculean effort.

The Greenville Textile Heritage Park Renovation Project

For the betterment of the community and growth of tourism, these committed leaders aim to raise $20,000 to further enhance the Greenville Textile Heritage Park. The park, with its six-acre size, demands a sizeable budget for cutting and upkeep of landscaping twice a month. The funds raised will primarily be used for such critical maintenance.

Strategically laid throughout the park are over a dozen markers that tell the tale of Greenville’s storied past, dating back a century when Greenville was predominantly a mill town. Hence, preservation of this park holds immense cultural and educational significance, a testimony to the city’s rich historic legacy.

An Investment in Community and History

Alan Mitchell, a member of the Greenville County council was among the leaders who strongly supported the preservation project. “This is something that will benefit this community. It’ll benefit residents from the city. It’ll benefit residents from the county,” Mitchell voiced earnestly.

Additionally, the funds will also aid in the creation of a heritage textile museum. “Wanting to get the word out about the history of Greenville, what made Greenville great. And at one time, Greenville was known as the textile center of the world,” Harkins shared in a sentiment mirroring his commitment to heritage preservation.
