A New Burrito Champion Emerges!
First up, let’s talk about something delicious: burritos! Richie Mata’afa, the creative mind behind Daylight Burrito, a pop-up inspired by Southern California cuisine, recently had a fantastic opportunity. He pitched his burgeoning business at the GVL Starts Demo Day on October 17, right in downtown Greenville. Not only did Richie impress the crowd, but he also was declared the crowd favorite, winning a cool $5,000 startup grant!
For those who aren’t familiar, GVL Starts is a nine-week educational program offered through The Hill Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Furman University. During this program, talented individuals get to work hand-in-hand with local business owners and mentors, building their skills and businesses. And as for Daylight Burrito, it made a splash in 2022 by offering a unique take on burritos that includes rice, beans, and even fries wrapped inside the tortilla. Now that’s what we call a carb lover’s dream!
Saluting the Marines at 13 Stripes Brewery
Mark your calendars for November 10 because it’s going to be a special day at 13 Stripes Brewery in Taylors. They’re celebrating the 249th anniversary of the Marine Corps with their annual birthday party! This bash will honor our military heroes with a cake-cutting ceremony, where the oldest Marine present will share cake with the youngest Marine. That’s a heartwarming tradition we all can appreciate!
As part of the festivities, 13 Stripes will also launch its DD-214 IPA. All proceeds from this special beer will go directly to Upstate Warrior Solution, an organization dedicated to supporting local veterans. The name of the beer pays homage to an important form that military personnel receive upon leaving active duty, reminding us all of the sacrifices made for our freedom.
National Sandwich Day Celebration
Sandwich lovers, rejoice! November 7 is National Sandwich Day, and VisitGreenvilleSC is pulling out all the stops at Fluor Field. Starting bright and early at 9:30 a.m., they’ll be assembling an incredible 8,000 sandwiches thanks to the wonderful support of local businesses like Duke’s Mayo, Spinx, and many others. These tasty sandwiches will go into the hands of local nonprofits such as Project Host, Meals on Wheels of Greenville, and Loaves & Fishes, making a real difference in our community.
New Ready-to-Drink Cocktails Hit the Scene
If you enjoy a refreshing drink, mark this down: a new ready-to-drink cocktail brand called Six Nineteen Spirits has just launched in the Upstate! Co-founded by Jamille Bradfield, this brand pays tribute to Juneteenth and offers a variety of cocktails, including a coconut rum-based drink, a grapefruit tequila cocktail, and a passion fruit mocktail. While you may not find them on store shelves just yet, keep your eyes peeled because they’re planning to launch before the end of the year!
