Greenville Development Code Undergoes First Annual Review
The city of Greenville’s development code is receiving its first annual review, with revisions proposed and public meetings planned. The code was officially adopted in June 2023 and serves as a tool to regulate development within the city limits. City staff has proposed several amendments to the code after 12 months of use and based on public feedback.
Proposed Updates
The proposed updates range from easing development requirements for new businesses to standards for outdoor TV screens. An amendment is also proposed to only permit smoke and vape shops in Business Heavy (BH) and Industrial (IG) zoning districts with additional restrictions.
Public Input
The public is invited to review and comment on the proposed changes to the development code. Three drop-in style meetings will be held at the Prisma Health Welcome Center in Unity Park on:
- Thursday, Aug. 22 from 8 to 10 a.m.
- Thursday, Aug. 22 from 3 to 5 p.m.
- Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Next Steps
The city’s Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to review the code updates on Sept. 5. If recommended, the amendments will go before Greenville City Council for final consideration. For more information and to stay updated, visit the official city website.
