Hey there, Greenville residents! If you’re as curious as a cat when it comes to what’s happening in your city, you’ll be thrilled to hear about the upcoming meeting of the Design Review Board this December 19. So grab a cozy drink, and let’s dive into what’s on the agenda!
First up on the docket is a project that’s sure to make many people buzz with excitement. The board will take a closer look at plans for the Bailey Estates Apartments. This isn’t just any apartment complex; it’s a 76-unit multi-family development that’s coming to life at 1146 Pendleton St. The property, owned by the United House of Prayer for All People, is about to get a beautiful facelift with plans for a two-story, 55,000-square-foot building spread across a 3.3-acre site.
But wait, there’s more! To ensure residents have a sense of community, planners are also including about 81 surface parking spaces and some delightful open space and small amenity areas where neighbors can gather and relax. It’s all very exciting, especially considering that the old Kash and Karry building previously occupied this spot before it was torn down earlier this year.
But that’s not all! The second application reveals plans for two additional residential buildings, both cleverly called “Building 7.” Each of these charming 6,030-square-foot structures will house four residential units, ensuring that there’s a cozy home for everyone. These buildings will sit gracefully fronting Motley Way and are set to add even more character to our beloved town.
Last but certainly not least, the board will review the final lighting and landscaping designs for the much-anticipated mixed-use project at 250 N. Church St., also known as the Greenville Gateway. This development is truly something to look forward to — it features not one, but two mixed-use towers! One of these towers will reach a dazzling 24 stories, while the other aims even higher at 29 stories!
A standout feature of this design will be the internally lit central window column in the tallest tower, offering a truly striking view for anyone passing by. Plus, intricate landscaping will be carefully placed on the grounds, adding to the aesthetic appeal of the area. The architectural details and materials were already given the green light back in September, and the site plan got the thumbs up in May, so things are really shaping up!
This year has been packed with exciting proposals, and as we move towards the end of December, the Greenville Design Review Board is set to continue its crucial work in shaping the community. Keep your ears to the ground, folks, as there’s plenty to look forward to in our vibrant city!
