Greenville County to Build New Elementary School

Greenville County to Build New Elementary School

Greenville, S.C. – Greenville County is set to break ground on a new elementary school that will be named Reedy Laurel Elementary School. This exciting project will take place on the former site of J.L. Mann High School, conveniently located along Isbell Lane near the I-85 interstate. The new school is designed to accommodate up to 750 students.

Groundbreaking Ceremony and Student Reassignment

The groundbreaking ceremony comes just a week after the Greenville County School Board voted in favor of a student reassignment plan. This plan will impact over 900 students from the district’s total of 78,000 students. Of those affected, about 600 students will be assigned to the new elementary school, while the remaining 300 students will be moved to other schools in the district.

Officials believe that these changes will help address building capacity issues and will lead to 25 boundary changes across all grade levels in the district.

School Opening and Future Plans

The Reedy Laurel Elementary School is scheduled to open its doors in August 2025 for grades K5 through second grade. The school’s plan is to expand by adding one grade each subsequent year until it reaches full capacity serving grades K5 through fifth grade by 2028.

The principal of Reedy Laurel expressed enthusiasm not only for the new building but also for the new programs that will be introduced at the school. This indicates a commitment to providing quality education and a positive learning environment for the students.

As this project moves forward, the community is looking forward to the positive changes that the new elementary school will bring to the area.
