Greenville County Students Charged with Threats

Greenville County Students Charged with Threats

Greenville County, S.C. — In a concerning turn of events earlier this week, four students from Greenville County Schools have been charged for making threats against their fellow classmates and school staff. The district confirmed these charges in a statement on Thursday, indicating that the students are being recommended for expulsion.

Details of the Charges

The allegations involve separate incidents that occurred at four different schools across the district. Here’s a breakdown of each case:

  • Blue Ridge Middle School: A 13-year-old student was arrested after a text conversation surfaced, where they made statements about bringing a gun to school. Fortunately, deputies found no weapon on the student.
  • Woodmont Middle School: Another student was charged, but specific details about this incident remain unclear.
  • Greer Middle School: A third arrest involved another 13-year-old student who allegedly made verbal threats of a shooting during class. The school resource officer was alerted, prompting an immediate investigation.
  • Riverside High School: The final incident involved a 16-year-old student whose threat was noted as unrelated to a recent BB gun attack.

School and Law Enforcement Response

In response to these alarming threats, Superintendent Dr. Royster and Sheriff Hobart Lewis alongside multiple police departments emphasized the serious nature of such threats. “Whether intended as a joke or not, they are a crime in South Carolina and could lead to significant legal consequences for all involved,” the district stated.

As the situation unfolds, Greenville County Schools has taken a firm stance against any threats that compromise the safety of students and faculty. The district plans to apply its behavioral codes to address these incidents properly, ensuring that a safe learning environment is maintained.

The community is on alert as authorities continue to monitor the situation and investigate further. Parents and students are urged to report any suspicious activities or threats to ensure everyone’s safety.
