Greenville County Students Face Charges Over School Threats

Greenville County, S.C. — In a concerning incident this week, four students from Greenville County Schools have been charged after making threats against their schools. The district authorities have also recommended these students for expulsion from their respective schools, emphasizing the seriousness of the actions.

Details of the Incidents

The threats were reported at four different schools. Among these, a 13-year-old student was arrested for making alarming comments about bringing a gun to Blue Ridge Middle School. This arrest is not connected to any earlier threats, as per the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office. Although deputies did not find any firearms on the student, the case remains serious.

Another incident occurred at Woodmont Middle School, where a student was arrested. However, the details surrounding the charge remain unclear as the district has not released specific information about what led to this student being charged.

The situation escalated further at Greer Middle School, where a similar incident took place. A 13-year-old student was charged after making verbal threats of a shooting on September 5. This threat was reported to a school resource officer, prompting a quick investigation by the school administration.

Lastly, a 16-year-old student at Riverside High School was charged as well. School officials confirmed that this threat is unrelated to a BB gun incident that happened shortly before the arrest. All the threats are being treated with utmost seriousness by school authorities and law enforcement.

Reactions from School Officials

Greenville County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Royster, along with Sheriff Hobart Lewis, expressed deep concern regarding such threats. They stated, “[Threats] whether intended as a joke or not, are a crime in South Carolina and can result in serious legal consequences for students or adults.” This emphasizes the gravity of threats in school settings.

As these cases proceed, district officials are taking steps to ensure the safety of the school environment for all students. Parents and community members are encouraged to remain alert and engage in discussions with their children regarding the responsibility surrounding such threats.
