Greenville County Students Charged with Making Threats

Greenville County, S.C. — Four students from Greenville County Schools are facing charges after making threats about their schools earlier this week. District officials reported that these students are also being recommended for expulsion.

The charges came to light when threats were made against four different schools in the area. At Blue Ridge Middle School, a 13-year-old student was arrested after a text thread was discovered in which the student mentioned bringing a gun to school. After identifying the student, authorities removed the teen from the school. Thankfully, a weapon was not found.

Another arrest occurred at Woodmont Middle School. However, the district did not disclose any specific details regarding the threatening behavior that led to the charges in this instance.

At Greer Middle School, a 13-year-old student was charged following verbal threats of a shooting made during a class session. The school resource officer alerted the administration, which quickly launched an investigation and removed the student from the premises. School officials confirmed that the student would face discipline according to the district’s behavior code.

The fourth arrest involved a 16-year-old student at Riverside High School. School district representatives noted that this threat was not connected to a separate incident involving a BB gun that happened the following night.

Superintendent Dr. Royster and local law enforcement emphasized the severe consequences of threats made against educational institutions. They stated clearly, “[Threats] whether intended as a joke or not, are a crime in South Carolina and can lead to serious legal action for both students and adults.”

Parents and community members are reminded of the importance of maintaining a safe learning environment for students. The situation has sparked conversations about safety measures and the handling of threats within schools.
