Greenville County Student Disciplined After ‘Potential Threat’ in Group Chat

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Greenville County School District has taken disciplinary action against a student following a recent incident in which a potential threat was made in a group chat outside of school.

Investigation and Response

The principal at Bryson Middle School sent a letter to parents on Thursday afternoon, notifying them that law enforcement had been alerted about the concerning comment. After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the student in question did not have any weapons and lacked the means to carry out the alleged threat.

Disciplinary Measures

While the student will not face criminal charges, they are facing disciplinary action according to the district’s behavioral code. The school administration is handling the situation internally to address the student’s behavior and ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

Reminder to Students and Parents

In the letter to parents, Bryson Middle School Principal Caroline Bohnenberger emphasized the seriousness of making threatening remarks towards others. She urged parents to speak with their children about the consequences of such actions and reminded them that safety is a top priority at the school.

Community Response

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and swift action in addressing potential threats, no matter the context in which they arise. By promptly investigating the situation and engaging with law enforcement, the school took necessary steps to ensure the safety of its students and staff.
