Greenville County Schools students have achieved remarkable success, outperforming the state average on various assessments during the 2023-24 school year. The latest assessment data from the South Carolina Department of Education reveals that Greenville County elementary and middle schools have exceeded the state in South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY) for English language arts and math. Additionally, the county’s middle and high school students have surpassed the state in all subject areas on the End-of-Course Examination program.
The tested subject areas include Algebra 1, English 2, Biology, and U.S. History. Furthermore, students in 11th and 12th grade have the opportunity to take South Carolina’s Career Ready Assessment, which is designed to measure essential workforce skills. During the spring of 2024, approximately 76% of GCS students assessed earned a credential, surpassing the state average rate of 72.2%.
GCS Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster commended the collective efforts of students, faculty, and district administration for their intentional and focused work leading to these achievements. Dr. Royster emphasized that these accomplishments not only highlight academic excellence but also reflect the students’ preparedness for the future, with essential credentials demonstrating their readiness to enter the workforce or pursue further education.
This year’s outstanding test scores demonstrate Greenville County Schools’ commitment to academic excellence and student success. The district’s dedication to providing a high-quality education is evident in the surpassing performance of its students compared to the state average.
