Greenville, SC – The latest test scores are in, and students in Greenville County Schools are shining bright. According to data released by the South Carolina Department of Education, GCS students outperformed their peers across the state in multiple assessments throughout the 2023-24 school year.
In elementary and middle schools, GCS students exceeded state averages on the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY) in both English language arts and math. This indicates a strong grasp of fundamental skills essential for future learning.
Moreover, in high schools, GCS students also topped the state averages across all subjects in the End-of-Course Examination Program. Subjects included Algebra 1, English 2, Biology, and U.S. History. The strong performance in these areas shows that students are not just passing but excelling in their academic pursuits.
Additionally, 11th and 12th graders took the South Carolina Career Ready Assessment, which focuses on critical workforce skills. About 76% of the students who were assessed in spring 2024 earned a credential, exceeding the state average of 72.2%. This achievement is a testament to the students’ hard work and preparedness for future careers or further education.
GCS Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster expressed pride in these accomplishments. He emphasized that the results reflect the hard work and dedication of students, faculty, and the entire school district. “The collective efforts have enabled students to not only excel academically but also prepare for their future with essential credentials that demonstrate their readiness to enter the workforce or continue their education,” said Royster.
