Greenville County Schools Test Scores Exceed State Average

Greenville, SC – Students in Greenville County Schools have shown impressive progress, outpacing the state average in multiple testing categories for the 2023-24 school year. Recent data released by the South Carolina Department of Education indicates that elementary and middle school students in the county excelled in both English language arts and math, as measured by the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY).

Middle and High School Achievements

In addition, middle and high school students also surpassed the state in various subjects on the End-of-Course Examination program. Key areas tested included Algebra 1, English 2, Biology, and U.S. History. Furthermore, around 76% of the 11th and 12th graders who took South Carolina’s Career Ready Assessment in the spring of 2024 earned a credential, outperforming the state average of 72.2%.

Contributors to Success

GCS Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster praised the hard work of students, teachers, and administrators for this year’s achievements. He commented, “The collective efforts have enabled students to not only excel academically but also prepare for their future with essential credentials that demonstrate their readiness to enter the workforce or continue their education.”

Looking Ahead

This positive trend in academic performance highlights the dedication and determination of the educational community within Greenville County. As these students continue to build their skills, the support from families and educators remains crucial.
