Greenville, South Carolina

Monday, April 8, will be an eLearning day for Greenville County Schools students due to the solar eclipse. The eclipse window, when there is the greatest potential for students to damage their vision, coincides with elementary and middle school dismissal times. With student safety being the top priority, this was the best option across all levels.

Safety Measures in Place

Schools will not have outdoor activities or athletic practices until after 4:00 pm. There will be no extended-day programs or after-school club meetings. This decision was made to ensure that students are not exposed to the harmful effects of staring at the sun during the eclipse.

eLearning Day Plans

Because Greenville County Schools is an approved eLearning district, this day will not have to be made up. Instruction will be provided through Google Classroom, allowing students to complete assignments online. If students are unable to participate in the eLearning day due to lack of internet service or other barriers, they will have the opportunity to complete the assignments at a later time.

Parents and students can visit the eLearning announce page for more information on how to access and complete the assignments on the designated eLearning day.

Upcoming Events and Activities

Greenville County Schools has taken the necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of all students during this rare solar event. The district is committed to providing quality education and taking proactive measures to protect students from any potential risks.

As a reminder, there will be no outdoor activities or athletic practices until after 4:00 pm on Monday, April 8th. Parents are encouraged to make appropriate arrangements for their children’s after-school care on that day.
