Greenville, S.C. – Greenville County Schools have announced they will remain closed for the rest of the week as a result of the significant impacts from Storm Helene. Schools will be closed from today until Friday, October 4, as officials assess the situation in the area.
The school district has stated that the decision to close schools stems from unstable power conditions and unsafe transportation routes. Officials are currently evaluating over 370 individual bus routes to determine safety for student travel. An additional factor is the disruption in power and internet services, which has made eLearning impossible during this time.
Due to these challenges, Greenville County Schools will not offer any eLearning classes for the week. This decision is to ensure the safety of students and staff, as access to power and reliable internet is critical for online education.
As of now, the school district has not made a decision regarding the possibility of in-person classes or eLearning for the week of October 7. Parents are advised to stay informed as the situation develops.
In addition, it will take at least 48 hours for cafeteria food supplies to be restocked once power is restored. This situation adds another layer of complexity to the school district’s response in the aftermath of the storm.
As the community begins to recover from the storm, Greenville County Schools will continue to monitor conditions and communicate any further updates.
