Mann High Academy to top wrestlers and outstanding musicians, students are making waves across various disciplines. The Greenville County School District is also focused on enhancing education for special needs students and establishing regulations for library books. With a proposed budget of nearly $947.8 million, the community stands united in celebrating these accomplishments and fostering an environment of growth and excellence.

Celebrating Success: Greenville County Schools Shine in April!

Greenville has been buzzing with excitement as students from Greenville County Schools have been hitting some incredible milestones and achieving amazing feats throughout April 2025! From outstanding athletes to talented artists, the accomplishments of these students truly deserve a spotlight.

Swimming Superstars

First up, let’s dive into the water, where J.L. Mann High Academy has produced champions this month! Lilly Gault Abdella made waves, securing the titles of both the 5A Division 1 Girls 200 Free State Champion and 500 Free State Champion. Not to be outdone, the girls’ swimming team, which includes Lily, Janie Lunsford, Caroline Burns, and Claire Burns, also clinched the 5A Division 1 State Championship in the 400 Free Relay. Meanwhile, the boys’ swimming squad made a splash too, becoming the 5A Division 1 400 Relay State Champions with a fantastic performance from William Adams, Counts Plyler, Max Tucker, and Brayden Franklin!

Wrestling Warriors

On the mat, there’s no shortage of talent either! Caden Carnes from Fountain Inn High is now the crowned 4A State Champion Wrestler in the 157 lbs category. Meanwhile, George Maholtz from Eastside High has made history as a 5A State Champion in Wrestling and holds the South Carolina record for career pins. These athletes really know how to bring the heat!

Outstanding Musicians

Moving onto the musical scene, Harrison Bean from Riverside High is shining bright as the 1st Chair (Principal) Bassist in the South Carolina Music Educators Association Orchestra Division. Not to be overshadowed, Faith Wright, also from Riverside, took the honor of being the 1st Chair (Principal) Second Violin. It’s truly heartwarming to see such talent echoing in Greenville’s halls of music!

Crafting Excellence

And how about some incredible achievements in the arts and trades? Jake Coleman secured a gold medal in SC SkillsUSA Cabinet Making, while Anna Parks Leonard and Brandon Lopez shined bright in T-Shirt Design and Commercial Roofing, respectively. We cannot overlook the astonishing gold medal voraciousness at Golden Strip Career Center, including Caden Lukachy for SC SkillsUSA CNC 2-Axis and Christian Newman for Welding Sculpture. What a bunch of talented students making their mark!

A Thinking Future

In addition to individual accomplishments, the Greenville County School District is taking significant steps for the future. A strategic review of its special education services is underway to ensure everything’s working smoothly for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP). With forums set for parents and an aimed budget of approximately $947.8 million for the upcoming school year, they are looking to enhance special needs education, improve mental health services, and focus on keeping our dedicated teachers around, proving they care about every student!

Curious Regulations in Sight

While the news is quite uplifting, the school board is also contemplating some stricter regulations regarding library books. A proposed grading system could be in the works to ensure that materials remain suitable for all students. Additionally, a new budget has been earmarked for converting some grass fields to artificial turf in several high school stadiums.

Let’s Keep Cheering!

As we applaud the achievements of talented students across the district, it’s clear that these celebrations are not just about trophies and medals. They embody hard work, determination, and the spirit of community that makes Greenville an incredible place for education. Here’s to more accomplishments and unforgettable moments in the upcoming months! Go Greenville!
