Travelers Rest, S.C. – Big changes are coming for Northwest Middle School as the Greenville County School Board has officially approved a plan to replace the existing school. This decision was made during a school board meeting held on Tuesday night.
The board voted in favor of purchasing approximately 30 acres of land off Highway 25, near Belvue Road. This new site will be the future home of Northwest Middle School, moving from its current location on Geer Highway, where it has been since it was built in 1973.
Despite undergoing multiple renovations over the years, the district has determined that a complete replacement is necessary. The new school will be part of the district’s long-range capital improvement plan, aimed at enhancing educational facilities for local students.
Currently, more than 800 students are enrolled at Northwest Middle School for the 2024 school year. The school board believes that the new building will provide a better learning environment and more modern facilities for the students.
The plan is seen as an essential step in addressing the needs of the community and the growing student population. Details regarding the timeline for construction and potential opening date have yet to be finalized but are expected to be shared in the coming weeks.
As this story develops, community members are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates about the construction and progress of the new Northwest Middle School campus. This project marks an important milestone for the Greenville County School District and its commitment to providing quality education.
