Greenville County restaurant food grades: Food stored below raw chicken, buildup on utensils

Greenville County restaurants faced scrutiny in July as several establishments received “C” food inspection grades for violations ranging from food storage mishaps to cleanliness issues. The South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) conducted routine inspections and identified multiple violations that posed potential health risks to patrons.

Key Findings:

During the inspections, SCDA inspectors discovered a variety of violations, including:

  • Food stored below raw chicken
  • Buildup on utensils
  • Misdated products
  • Food stored below recommended temperatures

Violation Categories:

SCDA classifies violations into two categories:

  • Priority Violations: These violations pose the highest risk of causing foodborne illness.
  • Foundation Violations: These violations are contributing factors that could lead to illness.

Inspection Grades:

Food establishments with scores below 78 out of 100 require significant improvements to their practices. A “C” grade is given to restaurants that fall into this category, prompting a follow-up inspection within 10 days to ensure corrective actions are taken.
