‘Rock of this Family:’ Son-in-law of pedestrian killed speaks out during court, suspect denied bond
The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) reported a tragic incident that took place in Greenville County on Monday, resulting in the death of a 75-year-old pedestrian. The victim, identified as Robert Daniel Dobbs, was hit by a vehicle while standing in a yard on Sweetwater Road near Woody Creek Road.
According to the SCHP, the pedestrian was on private property on Woody Creek Road when a vehicle traveling east on Sweetwater Road veered off the right side of the road, onto the property, and struck Dobbs. Tragically, Dobbs was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the crash, leading to an investigation into a hit-and-run incident. The SCHP has identified the suspect as Tyler Roberts, who has been taken into custody and is facing felony charges, including felony DUI involving death and felony hit-and-run with death.
During a court hearing on Tuesday, Roberts was denied bond. It was at this hearing that Dobbs’ son-in-law bravely spoke on behalf of the grieving family. He described Dobbs as a caring individual, a father figure, and a second dad to many. “He was the rock of this family,” the son-in-law expressed, highlighting the profound impact Dobbs had on his loved ones.
Son-in-law’s Emotional Testimony
Recounting the events leading up to Dobbs’ tragic passing, the son-in-law disclosed that Dobbs had been in his front yard trimming weeds at the time of the accident. His affectionate words painted a picture of a beloved family member whose presence was deeply cherished by all who knew him.
As the legal proceedings progress and the community mourns the loss of Dobbs, the family, friends, and loved ones of the victim seek solace in the memories and legacy he leaves behind.
