Elderly Pedestrian Fatally Hit by Car, Sparking Road Safety Concerns in Greenville County

Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Car in Greenville County

In a tragic incident yesterday in Greenville County, a 75-year-old man was struck and killed by a car. The mishap reportedly took place along Woody Creek Road at approximately 4 pm.

A Tragic Afternoon Accident

The unfortunate collision involved a 2007 Toyota SUV that was traveling east in Sweet Water Road. The vehicle reportedly lost control and ran off the side of the road, ending up striking the pedestrian who was standing on private property.

The pedestrian was found in critical condition by the first responders and was pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities later identified him as Robert Daniel Dobbs, a local resident of the area.

The Investigation Underway

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is thoroughly investigating the incident. Although preliminary findings suggest the car veered off the road before it hit the man, the complete circumstances surrounding the case are still under investigation. The authorities have not released any details about the driver at this point.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office confirmed the death and stated that an autopsy would be conducted on Tuesday to understand the exact cause of death. They have requested anyone with surveillance cameras in the area or any possible witness of the accident, to come forward and help in the investigation.

Community in Shock

The news of the accident left the local Greenville community reeling. Mr. Dobbs was known as a warm and friendly neighborhood figure by his peers. His sudden and tragic death has left his family, friends, and the entire community in deep shock and mourning.

With a heavy heart, one of his neighbors commented, “He was always there for anyone who needed him. His passing is a monumental loss for our community.”

Addressing Concerns Over Road Safety

This accident has sparked a discussion about road safety in the community, as concerned residents have started voicing their fears. They are calling for stricter traffic regulations and more road safety measures, especially near residential zones, to prevent such tragic accidents from occurring in the future.

While expressing their grief over the incident, the local community members also hope that this tragedy would bring attention to the need for road safety improvements in the area. Further updates on the ongoing investigation and the response from authorities with respect to road safety will be provided as they become available.
