In an effort to promote literacy and engage the community, the Greenville County Library System has partnered with the city of Greer to introduce a StoryWalk display in Kids Planet at Century Park. This initiative aims to provide families with an interactive and educational experience while enjoying the outdoors.
From June through August, visitors to Century Park in Greer will have the opportunity to embark on a literary journey by reading pages from the book “Run Wild!” by David Covell. As they stroll along the park’s sidewalk, they can immerse themselves in the story, combining the joy of reading with the beauty of nature.
Karen Allen, the youth services manager for the Greenville County Library System, emphasized the significance of StoryWalk in inspiring learning, promoting literacy, and fostering community connections. By offering a unique way for families to engage with books and literacy-related activities, StoryWalk encourages a love for reading and learning.
To keep the experience fresh and engaging, the StoryWalk books will be rotated every two months, offering visitors a variety of stories to enjoy. This dynamic approach ensures that the display remains exciting and appealing to both new and returning guests.
In addition to Century Park in Greer, the Greenville County Library System also has a StoryWalk display on Main Street in downtown Greenville. This expansion allows more members of the community to experience the benefits of interactive reading and outdoor exploration.
By integrating StoryWalk into public spaces like Century Park, the Greenville County Library System and the city of Greer are enriching the community experience and encouraging a sense of togetherness. Families, children, and individuals of all ages can partake in this innovative fusion of literature and outdoor recreation.
