A former computer lab manager at a Greenville County elementary school has been charged with cruelty to children after an incident involving a 10-year-old student. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office filed charges against 26-year-old Peighton Wesley Wayne Ivie, who was employed at Ellen Woodside Elementary School at the time of the incident.
The incident occurred on a Tuesday morning when Ivie encountered a group of students in the school bathroom. According to reports from the sheriff’s office, Ivie intervened to break up the group and allegedly physically assaulted a 5th-grade student. The warrant states that Ivie “lifted the student from the ground and forcefully threw him back on the ground.”
Following the incident, Ivie turned himself in on Thursday morning and was taken into custody by the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently being held at the Greenville County Detention Center, as confirmed by online jail records. Ivie has been charged with one count of cruelty to children.
Tim Waller, the spokesperson for Greenville County Schools, confirmed that Peighton Wesley Wayne Ivie is no longer employed by the school district. The district is cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation of the incident.
The safety and well-being of students are of utmost importance to schools and communities. Incidents of alleged violence or mistreatment involving school employees are taken seriously, and appropriate actions are taken to ensure the safety of all students.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident at Ellen Woodside Elementary School. Authorities are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the full extent of what transpired during the altercation involving the student and the former computer lab manager.
