Greenville County Elementary School Employee Charged with Cruelty to Child

Former School Employee Faces Charges

A former computer lab manager at a Greenville County elementary school has been charged with cruelty to children after an incident involving a 10-year-old student. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office filed charges against 26-year-old Peighton Wesley Wayne Ivie, who was employed at Ellen Woodside Elementary School at the time of the incident.

Alleged Incident Details

The incident occurred on a Tuesday morning when Ivie encountered a group of students in the school bathroom. According to reports from the sheriff’s office, Ivie intervened to break up the group and allegedly physically assaulted a 5th-grade student. The warrant states that Ivie “lifted the student from the ground and forcefully threw him back on the ground.”

Legal Action and Arrest

Following the incident, Ivie turned himself in on Thursday morning and was taken into custody by the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently being held at the Greenville County Detention Center, as confirmed by online jail records. Ivie has been charged with one count of cruelty to children.

School District Response

Tim Waller, the spokesperson for Greenville County Schools, confirmed that Peighton Wesley Wayne Ivie is no longer employed by the school district. The district is cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation of the incident.
