Greenville Community Unites for Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts

Community Togetherness and Support

Greenville, S.C. Comes Together for Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts

As many residents of Greenville, South Carolina, grapple with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the community is rallying together to provide much-needed support. This devastating storm has left its mark, but the spirit of unity shines brightly as organizations step up to assist those in need. Among the leaders in these relief efforts is Truliant Federal Credit Union and its charitable branch, the Truliant Foundation, which recently announced plans to commit over $50,000 toward food and relief resources for affected areas.

Immediate Aid for Affected Residents

In an impressive show of support, the Truliant Foundation has already delivered a staggering 16,000 bottles of water to Miracle Hill Ministries, a local organization aimed at serving the homeless and supporting addiction recovery. “Water is crucial right now,” said Bill Shell, the director of food resources at Miracle Hill Ministries. “Having access to hydration can significantly improve the wellbeing of our guests as they deal with the impacts of the hurricane.”

Each day, Miracle Hill serves around 950 meals in its shelters, but the community’s need for basic necessities, especially food, is still overwhelming. As Shell noted, “Due to the lack of food resources, more individuals may stay in shelters rather than returning to the streets.” With power outages persisting since September 27, residents are encouraged to donate non-perishable items such as spaghetti, pasta sauce, peanut butter, and jelly, which can help replenish supplies while power is still out.

Supporting Frontline Employees

Beyond supporting the immediate community, Truliant Federal Credit Union is also looking out for its own employees. The organization has initiated plans to distribute $250 payments to approximately 90 employees who have been impacted by the storm. Furthermore, branch managers in affected regions are going above and beyond by providing hot meals for employees during the day and taking-home meals at the end of their shifts.

“Hurricane Helene is an unprecedented disaster that has taken a huge toll on communities and residents in the Southeast,” states Todd Hall, president and CEO of Truliant. “We want to be a partner in the rebuilding process ahead and are dedicated to helping our employees and neighbors in this challenging time.”

Collaborative Support Through Donations

In addition to local efforts, the Truliant Foundation has made a significant $15,000 donation to the Carolina’s Credit Union Foundation Disaster Relief Fund. This fund aims to extend help to credit unions, their employees, and volunteers directly affected by the hurricane. Eligible individuals can benefit from grants that cover necessities including food, temporary housing, transportation, and even insurance deductibles.

Atticus Simpson, the executive director of the Truliant Foundation, emphasizes the importance of community support during emergencies: “These efforts not only underscore the importance of community solidarity but also ensure that support reaches those directly impacted by the storm. By standing together, we’re making a tangible difference in the lives of many.”

How You Can Help

The need for aid remains high, and those who wish to support these relief efforts can make donations either directly at Miracle Hill Ministries or through the Truliant Foundation’s donation portal. Contributions can be dropped off at 725 Keith Drive, Greenville, S.C., from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

In these trying times, the people of Greenville, S.C., can take heart in knowing that they’re not alone. This community is stepping up—providing food, water, and financial assistance as neighbors help neighbors get back on their feet.

Every small action counts, and together, we can make a substantial difference in recovering from the challenges Hurricane Helene has brought to our beloved community. Let’s stand in solidarity and show support for those who need it most.
