Greenville City Council Moves Forward on Property Sale
During the recent meeting on September 9, the Greenville City Council took important steps toward future developments in the city. One of the major decisions made was the initial approval to sell the property currently housing the city’s municipal court, located at 426 N. Main St.. This piece of real estate will be sold for $4 million to 426 N. Main LLC.
New Developments on the Horizon
The company plans to build two multistory buildings on the 2.66-acre site. These buildings are expected to serve as Class A mixed-use structures, which often include spaces for both commercial and residential use. This sale will help fund the construction of the new Public Safety Complex, which will be the new home for the Greenville Municipal Court, located on Halton Road.
Funding for School Resource Officers
In addition to the property sale, the city council also addressed funding for school resource officers. An ordinance received initial approval for $869,019 in state funding to support eight positions across various schools in the area. These schools include AJ Whittenberg Elementary, Blythe Elementary, GREEN Charter School, and others.
Other Council Approvals
Further highlights from the meeting included a lease agreement with the Greenville Airport Commission for a 10-acre property aimed at creating a skatepark and pump track. The council also finalized a development agreement with Three Falls LLC to improve areas along Falls Street and East McBee Avenue, with a city contribution of $650,000.
Additionally, the first reading of an ordinance to fund electric vehicle charging stations at the new public safety complex with $144,320 from a federal grant was approved. However, the council chose to defer another ordinance regarding changes to the public notice period for demolishing historic structures.
