Governor Henry McMaster joined Greenville leaders on Wednesday to announce one of the largest economic development deals in the county. EnerSys will build a new facility in Greenville that will create 500 new jobs. Governor McMaster emphasized that this move puts South Carolina on the map as a growing hub for technology and innovation.
The Greenville Area Development Corporation unveiled plans for a new 500,000 square foot facility with an investment of half a billion dollars by EnerSys. Jim Burns, the Chair of GACD Board of Directors, described the development as historic, stating that it elevates Greenville’s status as a business-friendly location.
EnerSys is a global company known for producing batteries for various industries, including chargers, aerospace, and transportation. The new facility at Augusta Grove Business Park will focus on manufacturing Lithium-ion cells for rechargeable batteries, catering to the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.
Greenville County Council Vice Chair Liz Semen expressed optimism about the economic impact of the new facility, stating, “Every time we get an announcement like this, we really hope it sends a signal to the rest of the world that Greenville is a great place to do business.”
With the groundwork already underway, the facility is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2027. Governor McMaster highlighted that this venture marks a significant step in expanding South Carolina’s tech industry and attracting innovative companies to the state.
With the creation of 500 new jobs, the EnerSys facility is set to contribute to the economic growth of Greenville and provide employment opportunities for residents. The investment in advanced battery technology also aligns with the state’s efforts to promote sustainability and green energy initiatives.
The announcement of the EnerSys facility represents a milestone for Greenville’s economic development and underscores the city’s appeal to major corporations seeking to expand their operations in the region. The partnership between EnerSys and Greenville signifies a promising future for both the local economy and the state’s technological landscape.
