Greenville Bars and NC-based Gin Maker Support Women in Hospitality

Greenville, NC – August 10, 2024

Greenville bars partner with a North Carolina-based gin maker to show support for women in the hospitality industry.

Several Greenville bars have joined hands with Conniption Gin, a distillery based in North Carolina, to launch a campaign aimed at recognizing and supporting women in the hospitality sector. The initiative, titled “Raising a Glass to Closing the Gap,” was unveiled in March as part of Women’s History Month and will continue until October.

As part of the campaign, Conniption Gin is pledging to donate $1 to the James Beard Foundation’s Women’s Leadership Programs for every participating cocktail sold. Downtown establishments like Scoundrel and O-Ku are actively participating in the cause by creating their own signature cocktails using Conniption Gin.

Supporting Women in Hospitality

Lauren Painter, manager and lead bartender at Scoundrel, highlighted the refreshing and floral notes of Conniption’s American Dry gin, making it perfect for spring and summer cocktails. Painter crafted the “La Belle” cocktail using Conniption’s American Dry gin, cardamom syrup, lemon, Champagne, and orange blossom water, drawing inspiration from a meal at Chai Pani in Asheville, North Carolina.

O-Ku features the Kinship gin from Conniption in their “Purple Lotus” cocktail, blending fresh lemon juice, bitters, St-Germain liqueur, and Kinship gin to create a fruit-forward libation with hints of lemon peel, peach, pear, honeysuckle, and cucumber.

Empowering Women in Distilling

The campaign holds special significance for Conniption Gin, co-founded by Melissa Katrincic, the first American female distiller inducted into The Gin Guild. Katrincic emphasized the importance of breaking gender barriers in the distilling industry and serving as a role model for women in the field.

Speaking about the campaign, Katrincic stated, “It’s important to me to serve as a role model for other women in the industry and to embrace my passion, dedication, and innovation in the gin industry overall.”

Community Support

Partnering bars such as The Anchorage, Hall’s Chophouse, and The Rabbit Hole are also part of the initiative, showcasing their solidarity with women in hospitality through unique Conniption Gin cocktails.

The collaborative effort between Greenville bars and Conniption Gin not only promotes a good cause but also celebrates the achievements and contributions of women in the hospitality and distilling industries.
