Greenville Bars and NC-Based Gin Maker Join Forces to Support Women in Hospitality
A Toast to Women in the Hospitality Industry
In a show of solidarity for women in the hospitality industry, several Greenville bars, alongside a gin distillery from North Carolina, have launched a campaign titled “Raising a Glass to Closing the Gap.”
The initiative is courtesy of Conniption Gin, a NC-based distillery, and aims to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of women in the sector. The campaign was launched during Women’s History Month and will run through till October.
Supporting a Worthy Cause
The campaign mandates that for every participating cocktail sold, Conniption Gin will be donating $1 to the James Beard Foundation’s Women’s Leadership Programs. Local Greenville establishments such as Scoundrel and O-Ku are contributing cocktails of their own.
The choice of Conniption Gin adds depth to the cause. Lauren Painter, manager and lead bartender at Scoundrel, praised the gin’s refreshing and floral notes. The La Belle cocktail uses Conniption’s American Dry gin, which pairs well with house-made cardamom syrup, lemon, Champagne, and orange blossom water.
O-Ku, on the other hand, utilizes Conniption’s Kinship gin for an exquisite drink named Purple Lotus. The cocktail’s unique taste is a blend of fresh lemon juice, bitters, and St-Germain liqueur, creating a harmonious balance with the gin.
Breaking Down Barriers
The initiative is personally significant for Conniption Gin. Its co-founder, Melissa Katrincic, was the first American female distiller to be inducted into The Gin Guild.
In reference to the male-dominated distilling industry, Katrincic acknowledged the triumph of her recognition. She hopes her dedication, passion, and innovations will serve as an inspiration for other women in the industry.
Joining the Cause
Other notable establishments in Greenville supporting the initiative include The Anchorage, Hall’s Chophouse, and The Rabbit Hole. These collaborations underscore the unity within the hospitality sphere, highlighting a shared goal of gender equality and empowerment.
