Greenville Arena District Flagships $170M Project

The Greenville Arena District plans to kickstart a $170M master plan project aimed at the extensive renovation and improvement of the Bon Secours Wellness Arena and its surrounding precinct. The owner of the much-loved arena is all set to provide it with a major facelift, visualizing it as an important gateway to the downtown Greenville.

Partnerships for a Promising Project

The ambitious project has seen the Greenville Arena District partnering with the prominent architecture firms LS3P, LMN Architects, and Gensler Sports. The firms have jointly won the contract for the master planning services for the 15,500-seat sports and entertainment arena and the corresponding area.

The Vision of the Master Plan

The crux of the plan includes comprehensive enhancements to the Bon Secours Wellness Arena while also focusing on transforming the adjoining GAD campus into a distinct destination. The vision is clearly to generate a unique sense of place, effectively making the area an active cluster for live amusement, music, and culture. Furthermore, the authorities have also given a nod to keep sustainability as the key factor throughout the process.

“We have assembled a world-class team to bring our vision for the future of the arena to reality. Our goal is to heighten every aspect of the arena — from the encompassing campus and the building itself to the fan and client experiences, sustainability, programming, and security,” stated Beth Paul, the general manager of Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

Celebrated Architects Leading the Project

The Greenville-based LS3P will supervise the project and the market study in collaboration with the illustrious design and architecture firm, Gensler. LS3P with Gensler has previously spearheaded numerous commendable projects like the renovations for Clemson University’s Littlejohn Arena and Raleigh’s PNC Arena.

“Our team is thrilled and prepared to provide guidance for the next chapter of our hometown arena’s evolution, principally positioning it for sustained success in a fiercely competitive regional market,” stated John Edwards, the LSM Greenville office leader.

Engaging the Local Community

While intricating the planning process, the design teams are resolute in involving the local upstate community for their input. The authorities anticipate the planning process will take around six months.

“We are committed to develop a distinct destination that embodies a unique sense of place — a hub where individuals congregate to indulge, de-stress, and create shared memories. We look forward to inviting the public into the planning process. We seek to solicit their feedback and ideas to ensure that the community’s voice shapes the project’s trajectory,” insisted Paul.

Moving towards a Bright Future

By investing in the rejuvenation of the Bon Secours Wellness Arena and its contiguous land, the Greenville Arena District is surely taking forward strides towards building a vibrant and thriving neighborhood connected with Downtown Greenville. This monumental endeavor re-enforces Bon Secours Wellness Arena’s standing as a cornerstone of the community’s identity and heralds an enriching era of entertainment, music, and culture for the city of Greenville.
