Greenville’s Gracie Plaza site plans deferred by Design Review Board

Greenville’s Gracie Plaza site plans deferred by Design Review Board

The City of Greenville’s Design Review Board has chosen to defer the updated site plans for Gracie Plaza, a mixed-use development on Greenville’s Gateway corridor. The project, which is being developed by Miami-based NR Investments and Greenville’s Johnston Design Group, has undergone a redesign after previous plans proved unfeasible. The new site plans feature a single tower that will occupy the site of the old Greenville Memorial Auditorium.

The developers submitted the updated site plans to the board, which included details on the building’s footprint, parking and pedestrian areas, open spaces, and landscaping. However, separate plans regarding the building’s mass and scale were proposed to be reviewed at a later date. Daniel Suarez de Puga, from NR Investments, explained that this separation was done to expedite the permitting and entitlement process.

Deferral decision

The Design Review Board decided to defer the site plans to the next meeting in order to properly consider the building’s mass and scale when reviewing the overall site plan. The next Design Review Board meeting is scheduled for May 16th. If the site plan is approved, the project’s architectural designs will be submitted for the board’s review.

The Matador receives approval for rooftop dining

The Design Review Board has approved the design plans for a rooftop patio at The Matador, a new Mexican restaurant and bar set to open in Greenville’s West End. The restaurant will be located in the former Husk location on South Main Street. The rooftop patio will feature seating, string lighting, umbrellas, and custom-made ironwork handrails. Renovations for the restaurant are expected to take eight weeks and it is anticipated to open in August.

Wyche Pavilion plans deferred

Proposed design plans for the Wyche Pavilion in downtown Greenville were deferred from the April Design Review Board meeting. The modifications to the historic structure are part of a $36 million campus redevelopment project by the Peace Center, who owns the site. The new proposed plans for the Wyche Pavilion will be reviewed at the next Design Review Board meeting on May 16th.

Fulfillment of Gracie Plaza’s vision on hold

The deferral of the site plans for Gracie Plaza has put the fulfillment of the project’s vision on hold. The mixed-use development is highly anticipated, with its prime location on Greenville’s Gateway corridor. Once completed, Gracie Plaza will not only provide a new landmark tower but also bring new commercial and residential opportunities to the area.
