Goodwill, Urban League of the Upstate Launch Film Academy

In a recent development in Greenville, Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina and the Urban League of the Upstate have launched a unique Film Academy in a bid to offer essential film industry skills and knowledge to interested individuals.

Memorandum of Understanding Signed

Both organizations announced on July 9, 2024, the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at achieving a mutual goal—the commencement of a Film Academy for interested participants. To be held on a backdrop of Greenville, this four-week course will introduce participants to a range of industry television and film skills as well as technologies.

The course aims to open up various career pathways for participants including 3D gaffing, environmental design, virtual production support, and optitrack operator. All participants will receive a training stipend.

Film Academy: Part of an Innovation Institute Collaboration

Pat Michaels, President, and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina (GIUMSC) expressed excitement over the launch of the Film Academy. Highlighting their collaboration with the Urban League as a crucial part of their Innovation Institute, Michaels stated that the program is an invaluable opportunity for individuals to acquire significant industry skills. More so, it will pave the way for a diverse array of exciting career paths in the television and film industry.
