The University of Georgia Lady Bulldogs are set to take on the Kentucky Wildcats in the first round of the SEC Tournament on Wednesday, March 6, at 11:00 a.m. ET. The matchup will be held at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.
Georgia holds a 41-22 lead in the all-time series against Kentucky. The Lady Bulldogs have been victorious in their last three meetings with the Wildcats, including a 72-65 win earlier this season. Led by fifth-year senior forward Javyn Nicholson, Georgia looks to continue their winning streak over Kentucky in the tournament.
This marks Georgia’s first appearance in the Wednesday session of the SEC tournament. The Lady Bulldogs have a strong tournament history, with four championship titles to their name (1983, 1984, 1986, 2001) and a runner-up finish in 2021.
Javyn Nicholson has been a standout performer for Georgia this season, recording 15 double-doubles and consistently scoring in double figures. In the previous game against Kentucky, Nicholson led the team with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
In addition to Nicholson’s contributions, guard Jordan Cole posted her first career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a recent game against Florida. The Lady Bulldogs have also welcomed a strong recruiting class, including four top-100 signees who are nominees for the McDonald’s All-America Team.
Under the guidance of head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, known as Coach ABE, Georgia has seen success on and off the court. Coach ABE led the team to 22 wins in her first season, securing a spot in the NCAA tournament and earning a victory against a Power 5 opponent.
Coach ABE’s coaching tenure at Georgia has been marked by strong defensive play, as the Lady Bulldogs led the SEC in steals last season. With a focus on creating a unique identity and fostering growth, Coach ABE has instilled a winning culture within the program.
Georgia fans showed up in full force during a recent game against LSU, packing the arena with 7,406 spectators. This marked the largest home crowd for the Lady Bulldogs in over a decade, underscoring the team’s strong fan base and community support.
As the SEC tournament gets underway, Georgia aims to build on their past success and make a statement against Kentucky. With a talented roster, experienced coaching staff, and dedicated fan base, the Lady Bulldogs are poised to make a run in the postseason.
