Greenville, SC – As part of Parkinson’s Awareness Month, the Greenville Area Parkinson Society will host its Strides for GAPS Walk, an event to raise awareness for Parkinson’s Disease on April 21 at Conestee Park in Greenville.
Running from noon to 2 p.m., the 0.4-mile walk will kick off at the Conestee Park Pavilion and continue around the park. The event aims to educate the community about Parkinson’s Disease and raise funds for programs that benefit individuals living with the condition and their families.
The event will feature food stalls, live music, local vendors, and activities for children, making it a fun outing for families and community members to come together in support of a crucial cause.
According to Shannon Spurrier, the executive director of GAPS, nearly 90,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with PD each year. Raising awareness about this disease is essential, and events like the Strides for GAPS Walk play a significant role in educating the public about Parkinson’s Disease.
Since its inception in 2019, the Strides for GAPS Walk has raised approximately $150,000 to sponsor programs that provide support and resources to those affected by Parkinson’s Disease. The walk not only raises funds but also creates a sense of community and solidarity among participants.
For those interested in participating or supporting the cause, more information about the event can be found on the Greenville Area Parkinson Society website at gapsonline.org/strides-for-gaps-2024. Whether walking, donating, or simply spreading the word, every contribution helps make a difference in the lives of individuals battling Parkinson’s Disease.
