Greenville: Furman University Launches ‘FUture Focused’ Strategic Plan

Furman University in Greenville announced on May 13 the commencement of its new five-year strategic plan named “FUture Focused.” The plan aims to solidify the university’s position as a hub of innovation and impact, nurture a thriving community, and ensure a sustainable future.

Key Pillars of “FUture Focused” Plan:

The strategic plan is built on three core pillars:

1. University of Innovation and Impact:

The plan focuses on establishing Furman as a leading liberal arts and sciences university recognized for providing a high-value, personalized learning experience through the teacher-scholar model, fostering a culture of innovation, and promoting thought leadership.

2. Thriving Community:

Furman seeks to cultivate a vibrant and interconnected community where students, faculty, and staff can thrive, engagement is encouraged, and well-being is prioritized.

3. Sustainable Future:

The university aims to nurture a dynamic and sustainable future as it enters its third century starting in 2026.

President Elizabeth Davis’s Vision:

Furman University President Elizabeth Davis expressed her enthusiasm for the strategic plan, stating, “Our strategic plan is our commitment to elevating excellence, innovation, and the holistic development of our students and our community. From pioneering engaged learning to inventing The Furman Advantage and establishing four community-focused institutes, our efforts have positioned Furman among the top liberal arts and sciences universities in America. Our faculty and staff continuously showcase a culture of innovation and a dedication to enhancing society, evident in the success of our students and alumni.”

Implementation of the Plan:

During the summer of 2024, various working groups will come together to kickstart the operational phase of the strategic plan, setting the course for the university’s future endeavors.
