Greenville: Furman University to Host Cuban Art Exhibit

Furman University will showcase Cuban art in an upcoming exhibit titled “Citizen Diplomacy” at the James B Duke Library. The exhibit will feature 35 pieces from the Rob Rowen/Clyde Hensley Collection along with new works from artists in East Cuba.

“Enamorados” by Caboverde and “Crecida en Jimenoa” by Eddy Ochoa are just a few of the artworks that will be on display. The exhibit aims to highlight the fresh and vibrant nature of Cuban art, showcasing the talent and creativity of painters from East Cuba.

Artists featured in the exhibition include Eddy Ochoa Guzman, Carlos Rene Aguilera Tamayo, Roel Caboverde, Jeho, Oscar Lasseria, Alfredo Rodriguez, Jose Julian Aguilera, Mildo, Eliades, and Pouyo.

Rob Rowen, owner of Nuance Gallery and curator of the collection, expressed his excitement about supporting the painters of East Cuba. He looks forward to seeing the direction in which their works evolve.

In addition to the exhibit, Furman University will host guest speaker Soldad Pagliuca of The Friendship Association at the Burgiss Theater in the Trone Student Center on March 11 at 5 p.m. Following Pagliuca’s presentation, attendees are invited to the opening reception of the exhibit at the James B Duke Library.
