The Furman University Board of Trustees has approved a contract extension for President Elizabeth Davis, extending her tenure through 2030. The contract also includes an option for two additional years, making Davis only the seventh president to serve Furman for 15 years or more.
Under President Davis’ leadership, Furman has achieved new levels of excellence. She has implemented The Furman Advantage, a groundbreaking vision for higher education that combines learning with immersive experiences outside the classroom. This personalized pathway prepares students for successful careers and community benefit.
The Duke Endowment, a long-time supporter of Furman, has committed over $78.9 million to The Furman Advantage since its launch in 2016. The foundation awarded a Centennial grant to the program this year, further demonstrating their dedication to Furman’s mission.
During Davis’ tenure, Furman also introduced the Pathways Program, a two-year advising course that supports The Furman Advantage. This program ensures that students are well-prepared for college and take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the institution.
The university has also launched the Clearly Furman campaign, which aims to raise $426 million by 2026, Furman’s bicentennial. The campaign has already raised over $392 million and will fund various initiatives, including a $40 million renovation of Timmons Arena, the largest capital project of the campaign.
Davis joined Furman as its 12th president in 2014. Prior to her appointment, she spent 22 years at Baylor University in Texas, where she held various leadership positions. Davis holds a Bachelor’s degree from Baylor and a Ph.D. from Duke University.
