The council also supported events like Greenville Open Studios, where 143 artists earned $493,358, and Flat Out Under Pressure, an annual 24-hour visual arts challenge that drew 128 submissions and awarded $7,000 in prizes to 14 artists.

The council’s SmartARTS program placed 150 artists in 42 Greenville County Schools district schools to teach as part of the district’s arts-integrated curriculum. Since its inception in 2002, SmartARTS has funded more than 800 arts-integrated units for the district, totaling $2.1 million from grants from the U.S. Department of Education.
