Goodwill Joins Forces with Urban League of the Upstate to Launch Film Academy in Greenville County

Groundbreaking Partnership Promises Unique Skills Training and Employment Opportunities

Greenville, South Carolina – Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina (GIUMSC) and Urban League of the Upstate, on July 9, announced they have signed a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of a unique film academy. The initiative forms part of GIUMSC’s Innovation Institute and aims to deliver essential television and film industry skills and technologies.



Further Details About the Film Academy Program

The course runs for a period of four weeks and introduces participants to an array of career pathways. These include 3D gaffing, environmental design, virtual production support, and optitrack operator roles. Open to all interested individuals, the program schedules sessions on a weekly basis in Greenville County and offers a training stipend.

Leadership Expresses Excitement About the New Program

Speaking on the development, Pat Michaels, president and CEO of GIUMSC, said, “We are thrilled to launch the Film Academy in partnership with Urban League. This program is a unique opportunity for individuals to gain valuable industry skills and open doors to a variety of exciting career paths in the film and television industry.”

Apart from the new film academy, GIUMSC also provides other training programs such as the ELEVATE drone pilot training program and the tech academy. The programs are aimed at equipping individuals with practical skills for emerging industries.
