The U.S. Department of Education is investigating a complaint filed against Greenville County Schools in April. A weekly list published by the agency’s Office for Civil Rights says the investigation was opened on April 29. The complaint is classified as alleged “Disability – FAPE” discrimination. Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) is a policy that says all children in South Carolina from ages 3 to 21, including those with disabilities, have a right to public education. No further details have been released.
The complaint is currently under investigation, and officials have not yet determined if it is founded or not. The nature of the alleged discrimination has not been disclosed at this time. FOX Carolina reached out to Greenville County Schools for comment on the investigation.
