Exciting New Skatepark and Pump Track Planned for Greenville Community

Exciting News for Greenville: A New Skatepark and Pump Track on the Horizon!

Greenville, S.C. is buzzing with excitement after city officials unveiled plans for a brand-new skatepark and pump track at the Greenville Downtown Airport. This new recreational facility will spread across ten sprawling acres and promises to be a hit for both seasoned skaters and newbies alike!

Details of the Project

The city has secured a 50-year lease for this prime piece of land, with plans to pay approximately $40,000 a year for the lease agreement. Airport director, James Stephens, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “Right behind me we have the future skate park and pump track from the City of Greenville.”

City council members are also elated, as they have already earmarked over $1.25 million in their budget to bring this skatepark to life. This funding will help cover the costs of construction, allowing for the development of a top-notch facility that caters to the community’s need for skateboarding and biking spaces.

A Perfect Spot for Adventures

The chosen location near the airport isn’t just a random pick; it’s a part of what city leaders are calling a community corridor. According to Stephens, the area already boasts attractions such as the Takeoff Mini Golf, the Military History Center, Runway Park, and Runway Café. “It really fits in nicely with us and our airport community corridor,” he said.

Community Excitement

It seems that the excitement isn’t just rising from the city hall, but from skaters in the area as well. Local skater Ray Gonzalez shared his thoughts on the project, saying, “There are a lot of skaters around here in Greenville, SC, and there are new up-and-comers in skating. I think it’s just a great idea that they are bringing a new skate park in a new better area for people to do their tricks and try new things.” His enthusiasm is certainly palpable!

Long-time residents and business owners have been voicing their support for the need for a skatepark, with Brian Johnston, the owner of Blazer Surf and Skate, emphasizing, “It has been needed for many, many years. Letting kids ride bikes and boards and really enjoying dealing with gravity is the greatest thing ever. They are going to have a great time with it.” And we couldn’t agree more!

Future Plans

In addition to the skatepark and pump track, city leaders are working to connect the Swamp Rabbit Trail to this new recreation area. This connection will make it even easier for locals and visitors to access the new park while enjoying the great outdoors. However, it’s important to note that as of now, design work for the park has not yet commenced, and no dates for construction have been set. So, while the anticipation is high, some patience will be required before the first boards hit the pavement.

Conclusion

For the residents of Greenville, the promise of a new skatepark is a dream come true, and it shows the city’s commitment to providing recreational spaces for everyone. With plans in motion and the community’s enthusiasm backing it, the skatepark and pump track are set to become a vibrant hub for activity and fun! Keep your eyes peeled for updates on this exciting project, Greenville!
