According to city officials, they have been diligently crafting a lease agreement with the Greenville Airport Commission over the past year. On September 9, the Greenville City Council will be casting their votes on this important ground lease agreement at a meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Greenville City Hall.

Now, you might be wondering about the cost associated with this venture. The city plans to remedy the $40,000 annual rental fee of the leased property. How? By applying the airport’s annual stormwater fee to offset this cost! That’s one way to keep our community projects sustainable and cost-effective.

Where Will the Funds Come From?

This ambitious project is not just about the skatepark and pump track; it’s also about making sure our funding is aligned properly. The city plans to transfer funds from the hospitality fund, which will be expensed through the parks, recreation, and tourism department’s operating account. This step ensures that the development of the skatepark and pump track won’t compromise other essential community services.

The excitement doesn’t stop here! The city has additional plans that will complement this new facility. They are set to sell the Greenville City Municipal Court property, located at 426 N. Main St.. This property is up for grabs, with the city council planning to vote on the first reading of an ordinance to authorize the sale on the same day, September 9.

Who’s interested? A local entity, 426 N. Main, LLC, has plans to purchase the 2.66-acre site for a whopping $4 million. They aim to construct two multi-story, Class A mixed-use buildings, adding even more vibrancy to our downtown area. With this sale, the municipal court will be relocating to the city’s new Public Safety Complex on Halton Road.

Funding for Future Growth

The proceeds from this property sale are intended to help offset the construction costs of the new public safety complex, keeping the city’s finances healthy while ensuring continued growth and improvement in our community services.
