Greenville has some exciting news in the air! On Saturday, November 9, 2024, the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities is rolling out the red carpet for families curious about artistic educational opportunities. This much-anticipated event, known as Go Govie! Day, is the perfect chance for families with artistically talented students to learn all about what the school has to offer.
The open house runs from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM, and the good news is, anyone interested can easily sign up online at SCGSAH.org/go-govie-day. Dr. Cedric Adderley, the school president, warmly invites all families across South Carolina to come on out. “We invite all families in South Carolina who are interested in the Governor’s School’s summer programs or tuition-free, residential high school to come learn more about the Govie experience,” he explained. It truly is one of the best opportunities to explore exceptional programs tailored for young artists.
So, what can attendees expect during this incredible day? Visitors will get the chance to explore the beautiful campus, observe engaging classes, and enjoy stunning arts demonstrations. There will also be informational sessions where families can soak in a wealth of knowledge about the school’s unique offerings. To top it off, attendees can chat with faculty and current students to ask everything they’ve ever wanted to know about the Govie community.
For more than 25 years, the Governor’s School has been doing amazing work in providing a nurturing environment for South Carolina’s artistically gifted students. With a reputation of being the “Best High School for the Arts in South Carolina” according to Niche.com, this school has been at the forefront of developing young talents in various art disciplines including creative writing, dance, drama, film, music, and visual arts.
The residential high school caters to 10th to 12th grade students, and options for overnight summer programs are available for those in grades 7-12, depending on their chosen art focus. Excitingly, the Governor’s School is currently accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year and their summer programs, so now’s the time for interested families to hop on board!
All South Carolina residents in grades 6-11 are eligible to apply online at SCGSAH.org. It’s important to note that the priority deadline for all programs falls on January 8, 2025, but applications will keep being accepted until all spaces are filled.
