Greenville, S.C. is buzzing with excitement as state education leaders recently graced *Legacy Early College* with a generous donation of **$45,000** from the *South Carolina Children’s Fund*. This delightful news was shared on a sunny Friday, and the atmosphere was filled with hope and determination as the school’s founder, **William Brown**, detailed the plans for expanding their capacity.
With this significant investment, Legacy Early College has set its sights on expanding enrollment from **1,700** students to potentially **3,000**! Now that’s a leap! “There has to be a need,” Brown emphasized. “There is a dramatic need in this community.” His passion for education shines bright as he mentioned how they cater to each student with absolute faith and belief. “We do it one day at a time, one scholar at a time,” he added.
For the past **fifteen years**, Legacy Early College has devoted itself to serving children in the Upstate, and their aim doesn’t just stop at high school graduation. “We have a vision here at Legacy,” Brown declared. “That is every scholar is too and through college.” The school is now focusing on ensuring students graduate **debt-free**, opening doors to a brighter future without the burden of loans.
Among those celebrating this milestone was the *State Superintendent of Education*, **Ellen Weaver**. She positively described *Legacy Early College* as “life changing.” Weaver spoke with pride, praising the transformative work happening in Greenville. “What Legacy is doing to transform thousands of students’ lives here in the west side of Greenville and across the entire upstate… it’s changed the entire life cycle of families here in the upstate,” she explained.
The camaraderie among education leaders was palpable, with *South Carolina Public Charter District Superintendent*, **Chris Neely**, emphasizing that “it takes teamwork to provide the opportunity.” He highlighted the collaboration between legislative leaders, educational authorities, and generous foundations that makes such contributions possible. “The fact that we can bring together our state’s legislative leaders… to provide this enormous gift—it’s going to expand opportunities for many more kids,” Neely stated.
“Now in America, we like to talk about the *ladder of success*,” Neely added. “I really call it the *ladder of opportunity*.”
These words capture the essence of what the school and its supporters are striving for—a chance at success for every child regardless of their background.
As plans are set into motion for expansion, Brown shared that they aim to add another building to accommodate more aspiring scholars. Excitingly, details regarding the expansion and fundraising efforts will be revealed soon, promising a bright future for Legacy Early College and the children of Greenville.
The community excitement is tangible as more families will have access to quality education that holds the potential to change lives. It’s all hands on deck, and with the combined efforts of dedicated individuals and organizations, the dream of providing better educational opportunities is steadily becoming a reality.
As Greenville looks forward to this incredible expansion, the opportunity for children to *elevate themselves* has never felt so promising.
