Escaped Tennessee Inmate Arrested in Greenville, Deputies Say
GREENVILLE, S.C. – An escaped inmate from a detention center in Elizabethton, Tennessee, has been apprehended by deputies with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Department (GCSD) in Greenville, South Carolina.
Billy Reed Fletcher, 43, managed to escape from the detention center on June 20, prompting a search operation across state lines. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) had reason to believe he had fled to the Palmetto State.
Tip Leads to Arrest
Deputies revealed that SLED received a crucial tip regarding Fletcher’s whereabouts, which proved instrumental in his arrest. The fugitive was located and taken into custody around 8:30 p.m. on July 4 at 705 Sulphur Springs Road in Greenville.
Fletcher is now being held at the Greenville County Detention Center on a fugitive from justice warrant. Following standard procedures, he will soon be extradited back to Tennessee to face charges related to his escape.
