In gearing up to welcome students back for another exciting academic year, Anderson County School District 3 recently took its first step towards a greener, more sustainable future. The district welcomed its first of four electric buses, decked with introduce blue bumper and complete with front, side, rear, and interior safety cameras. This upgrade is expected to not only bring down the costs associated with maintenance and fuel but also significantly reduce the district’s carbon emissions.
Meanwhile, Greenville County Schools are addressing staff shortages with a proactive approach, hosting their last summer job fair at Enoree Career Center. The district currently seeks bus drivers, foodservice operators, and custodians and hopes to fill all vacancies before the county’s school start date, August 8th. Greenville County Schools have already seen positive results from a recent 3% state pay increase for bus drivers, filling many positions and mitigating driver shortages, particularly in the Berea and Taylors areas.
Further east, Spartanburg County School District 5 kicked off a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of their new stadium complex at James F. Byrnes High School. The 8,000-person capacity stadium sports a state-of-the-art press box, larger navigable fan spaces, and an artificial turf. The exciting venture is aimed to be completed within a year and is being funded through the district’s existing capital projects fund, ensuring no additional burden to taxpayers.
These improvements signal a bright start to the new school year across Upstate. As students gear up to return to school, they can look forward to a year of learning in an enhanced educational environment, with districts extensively investing in new technology, infrastructure, and personnel.
