Earth Fare Partners with Flashfood to Reduce Food Waste and Offer Savings in Greenville

Greenville, SC – August 9, 2024

In a move to combat food waste and provide affordable healthy food options, Earth Fare has teamed up with Flashfood at its Greenville location on Pelham Rd. The partnership aims to offer customers significant savings while promoting sustainability in the community.

Reducing Food Waste and Greenhouse Gas Emissions

According to a study by Recycle Track Systems, grocery stores discard approximately 30 percent of their products each year, contributing to about 11 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. As families face rising grocery costs, access to nutritious and reasonably priced food becomes a challenge.

Introducing Flashfood to the Southeast

Earth Fare is setting a precedent in the region by becoming the first grocer to partner with Flashfood as part of its Flashfood for Independents platform. This collaboration allows customers to enjoy discounts of up to 50 percent on a variety of items such as produce, meat, and dairy.

How Flashfood Works

Flashfood operates through a user-friendly app that notifies shoppers of discounted food items. Customers can place their orders and make payments directly on the app, then collect their groceries from the designated Flashfood coolers in the store. Since its inception in 2016, Flashfood has prevented over 100 million pounds of food from going to waste and saved consumers $280 million on grocery bills.

Expanding Sustainability Initiatives

Nicholas Bertram, CEO of Flashfood, expressed his admiration for Earth Fare’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement. By joining forces, the two organizations aim to align their values and further reduce food waste in the Southeast.

Future Expansion

Earth Fare and Flashfood plan to extend the program to Asheville and Earth Fare’s four locations in the Charlotte area in the coming weeks. This expansion will offer more shoppers the opportunity to access affordable, high-quality food while promoting environmental responsibility.

About Earth Fare and Flashfood

Earth Fare is a prominent natural and organic grocery store with a presence in the Midwest and Southeast, boasting 18 locations across seven states. The company adheres to a strict Food Philosophy that prohibits artificial ingredients, trans fats, high fructose corn syrup, and added hormones and antibiotics.

On the other hand, Flashfood is dedicated to reducing food waste and providing savings to consumers through its platform that connects shoppers with discounted groceries. With partnerships across North America, Flashfood is making significant strides in minimizing food waste and promoting sustainable shopping habits.
